| Diary 4
Date: Aug 10, 2005
Location: Cherry Beach, Toronto
Water Temp: 76 degrees
Conditions: Windy - Quite Choppy
Arrived and first looked out for Swans.
There was one in the harbour area digging for bugs between
it's feathers... nasty rotten water fowl! Dove in planning to
do 4km; 1000m west, return and repeat.
Fighting the wave heading west is always tough on
at Cherry Beach. I kept fairly close to the shore and could
see the bottom below at all times. There are some dense weedy sections
but otherwise, the bottom is covered in this lovely green moss
like stuff (?); lovely to touch. I usually don't see much
life down there, but today, there seemed to be fish (small and
larger) everywhere.
Ran into a huge patch of weeds just floating freely.
Freaked me out, but just kept swimming through it and then focused
on recovering from my freaked out state.
Worked with 50 strokes with full supporting kick,
20 strokes w/ a 2 beat kick.
Worked with breathing every 5th stroke for 100 strokes
and 100 strokes with 3 breathes (normal).
Saw a huge, but dead, fish laying on the bottom. Wonder
why it died? Hope it's not the water. Or even worst, hope it wasn't
a larger fish! - Strange the things that go through your head while
open water swimming.
