(1961)
  John Herbert
A comedy drama in one act.

The single setting is the family-run restaurant of Dada, Mama and their two teen-age children, Ilke and Nick. Dada rules with an iron fist and saves every cent he can. Mama cooks, cleans and washes dishes. Ilke serves food and Nick works at the cash register, an old-fashioned machine in silver and gilt finish, embossed with many figures - the household god. Three customers, a working man, a banker and a news reporter affect the family's life on a day that the stock market crashes, putting Dada's bank-savings in question. The three family members turn on Dada for the way he has robbed them of living to only make money. Their lives are cruelly resolved at last.

8 Characters: Dada, Mama, Ilke, Nick, the Reporter, the Banker, the Labourer and Stella (Ilke's only friend).
