A one act drama.

The Commandant of a Nazi concentration camp in Germany, where many Gypsies are held as prisoners, prepares for the visit of a high-placed Gestapo figure being sent to report to Nazi officials on the running of the camp. The Commandant's wife, Gerda, has just punished a Gypsy woman, Maria, for concealing a valuable ruby in her skirt. Gerda has Maria's small child, a baby, nailed to a cross above the wall of the camp as a warning to other prisoners. Maria's husband, Romano, is private chef for the Commandant's kitchen because he is a skilled chef. When the Gestapo officer comes to dinner, Romano takes a terrible revenge on the Commandant for the torture of his child.
