John Herbert "The Primadonna"

Monologue, unpublished.

(1988)
  John Herbert
A one act play.

An aged performance artist talks about her past while surrounded by the memorabilia of her career; theatre posters, old costumes, studio photographs, some stage props and musical recordings, from which she plays occasional excerpts. She mixes art media in the telling so that we are never sure whether she was dancer, singer, actor or writer, or all. She offers us the story of an era, including the price of success and failure, the cost of a life in art.

1 Character: The Prima Donna
1 Setting: Her Dressing Room
