A comedy-drama in three acts.

A look at the city of Toronto's nightlife on downtown Queen Street where inter-racial relationships were still suspect. Clio, an African-American who long ago moved to Canada, was once a successful concert singer but now has to teach music to a few students in order to survive. Clio's best student, Polly, a young native Afro-Canadian, accompanies Clio to the Queen Street Café. The German-born immigrant, Miss Schultiz, an accomplished chef, and a young rounder named Bobby Boy who avoids steady work, become involved in the lives of Clio and Polly. Nick, the Greek-born waiter, has a crush on young Polly. Clio's nemesis is Officer Longarm, a policeman who despises the inhabitants of the bar.
