A comedy-drama in three acts.
A look at the city of Toronto's nightlife on downtown Queen Street
where inter-racial relationships were still suspect. Clio, an African-American
who long ago moved to Canada, was once a successful concert singer but
now has to teach music to a few students in order to survive. Clio's best
student, Polly, a young native Afro-Canadian, accompanies Clio to the
Queen Street Café. The German-born immigrant, Miss Schultiz, an accomplished
chef, and a young rounder named Bobby Boy who avoids steady work, become
involved in the lives of Clio and Polly. Nick, the Greek-born waiter,
has a crush on young Polly. Clio's nemesis is Officer Longarm, a policeman
who despises the inhabitants of the bar.
