Frequently Asked Questions

Dear Mr. Charlebois:

The only thing I find curious and unbalanced in my section in the encyclopedia is your choice of quote from a New York theatre review: you chose one of the worst NY reviews of 1967, the one by 'stringer' Dan Sullivan in the New York Times. There were more negative reviews, as well, but the majority of NY reviews were positive. One of the most influential drama critics of that era was Jerry Tallmer of the New York Post, who wrote,

"Nothing I have seen in many a long pale month has moved me so profoundly as Mr. Herbert's Fortune and Men's Eyes. The performance is brilliant."

Isn't it a trifle too 'Canadian' in attitude to use only a negative review?

John Herbert.
